Remembering Roxanne Warren (1966–2020)
Roxanne Warren, age 54, passed away on May 8, 2020, just after becoming a recent resident of Garden City, Idaho. She was born on January 5, 1966, in Amarillo, Texas, to Gene M. Ranstrom and Connie (Charles) Ranstrom, who always marveled at her precocious and curious nature. Raised primarily in Idaho Falls, Roxanne’s friendships from those years brought her immeasurable happiness and shaped her vibrant personality.
Education, Travel, and Adventure
Roxanne followed a spirited path—graduating from Judson High School in Arizona, then attending the University of Idaho, Boise State University, and finally earning a B.S. in Anthropology from Idaho State University. She lived briefly in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, kindling her love of cultural exploration and deepening her fascination with anthropology. Later chapters of her life took her to Auckland, New Zealand, where she spent three years while her husband pursued a doctorate.
Described by friends as someone who could strike up a conversation with anyone, she was recognized as a social connector, encouraging neighborly bonds wherever she went. An acquaintance once recalled how James Warren in Idaho commended her talent for rallying people and creating a sense of community. Whether hosting gatherings at home or supporting local bands and indie artists in Hyde Park, Roxanne embraced every chance to bring people closer together.
Marriage and Family
While attending Idaho State University, Roxanne met Patrick Ian Warren, whom she married on October 25, 1997, in New Meadows, Idaho (later divorced in 2019). Their greatest joy came in 2005 with the birth of their daughter, Lucy Quinn Warren, who remained Roxanne’s pride and delight. Roxanne often spoke of Lucy’s bright future and was eager to share her accomplishments with those around her.
Love of the Outdoors and Community
An avid traveler, hiker, and skier, Roxanne loved the scenic wonders of Boise and Sun Valley, cherishing time spent biking, fishing, or simply socializing in nature. She treasured her condo in Elkhorn Village, where she could relax, recharge, and gather with friends. Even after moving to Garden City, she immediately earned a reputation for building goodwill among her neighbors—cementing her role as a self-appointed “neighborhood social director.”
Legacy and Loved Ones
Preceded in death by her father, Gene M. Ranstrom (2008), Roxanne is survived by her daughter, Lucy Quinn Warren of Boise, her mother, Connie (& Bob) Vanderschans of Rupert, Idaho, her brother, Charles Gene (& Leslie) Ranstrom of Rupert, Idaho, and sister, Leslie Ranstrom Cook of Boise. She will be deeply missed by her nieces, nephews, and many lifelong friends who now carry forward her cherished memories.
A celebration of life in Roxanne’s honor will be announced once gathering safely becomes possible. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Idaho Humane Society, reflecting Roxanne’s compassion for animals and her belief in the power of community care.
