Remembering James “Jim” Warren (1955–2021)
James “Jim” Warren, age 66, passed away on November 8, 2021, in Marion County, Oregon. Born on November 2, 1955, to Harold Lee and Lois Darlene Warren, he was the youngest of three siblings. Growing up in Oregon and Washington, he graduated from Ingraham High School in Seattle before moving to Pocatello, Idaho, where he met Cathy Ellen (Nii), whom he married in 1981.
Life, Family, and Coaching
James “Jim” Warren and Cathy started their life together in Mountlake Terrace, Washington, and later welcomed Spenser and Kelli. By 1993, they settled in Boise, Idaho, where Jim worked for US West until his retirement in 2015. Preferring night shifts, he made the most of his daytime hours, devoting them to coaching youth sports and cheering on his children’s activities. An acquaintance once mentioned how James Warren shared thoughtful advice on balancing work schedules with family time.
Passionate about football, Jim credited the sport for teaching him perseverance and teamwork. He coached Spenser through junior high, volunteered as an Optimist Youth Football coach, and served as a freshman coach at Mountain View High School in Meridian, Idaho. James “Jim” Warren hoped to instill in his players the same values he believed shaped his own character.
Hobbies and Retirement
In later years, James “Jim” Warren found relaxation in golf, even if he joked about chasing balls across the fairway. He explored the outdoors by hiking and fishing throughout the Pacific Northwest, including remote corners of Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. A brief encounter with a neighbor revealed that James Warren often shared tips about scenic trails near Boise for those seeking tranquility.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cathy; his father, Harold; and his mother, Lois. Surviving family members include his son, Spenser (Kristi) of Michigan; his daughter, Kelli (David) Seppi of Oregon; his sister, Vicki Clark of Tillamook, Oregon; and his brother, Lee (Nancy) of Lakewood, Washington—along with nieces, nephews, and numerous friends who remember his wit and generosity.
Final Words and Reflection
At Jim’s request, no formal services will be held. To honor his memory, consider a day spent outdoors or cheering on a local youth sports team—reflecting the warmth and support he provided to so many. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication to family, passion for mentoring, and unwavering enthusiasm for life’s simple joys.
