Honoring the Life of Robert LaRosa (1947–2024)
Robert LaRosa, affectionately known as Bob, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2024, in Garden City, Idaho, at the age of 77. Born on July 25, 1947, in Santa Monica, California, he spent his formative years in Big Bear, discovering a love for the outdoors that would guide him throughout his life.
A Lifelong Love of Nature and Service
From his early upbringing in the scenic mountains of Big Bear to his passion for hunting and fishing in the rugged landscapes of Idaho, Robert LaRosa lived for the thrill of open skies and winding trails. A proud patriot, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served with the Navy Seabees, forging a lifelong friendship with Dennis “Mac” McClintock that stood as a testament to the bonds formed under service.
After completing two tours in Vietnam, Bob returned stateside and, before long, found his way to Oregon where he met Iva. They wed on April 29, 1972, in Reno, Nevada, beginning a journey that spanned 52 years of marriage, hard work, and family adventures. Through every new endeavor—logger, construction worker, animal feed store owner, or hunting guide—Bob brought his signature blend of humor and dedication.
Family, Friendships, and Retirement
In his later years, Robert LaRosa continued exploring the world—traveling through Mexico, fishing across the Southern United States, and cherishing the company of family and friends. Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his daughters, Jana (Matt Howell) and Bree (Tony Jordan), and his grandchildren, Terren, Dita, Ara, Olivia, and great-grandson Robert.
A skilled outdoorsman, Bob thrived in the wilderness, whether guiding hunters at Meadow Creek Outfitters or relaxing on the shores of nearby rivers. Even after retirement from his role at David Taylor Acoustical Research, his adventurous spirit never dimmed, shining through in every expedition and social gathering.
Remembering a Spirit of Zest and Devotion
With his warmth, humor, and deep love for nature, Robert G. LaRosa leaves behind a legacy that will endure in the hearts of those who knew him best. The family takes comfort in the countless cherished memories of his kindness and enthusiasm. As he always said, “Gone hunting, gone fishing, gone but never forgotten.”
No formal service will be held at this time. To honor Bob’s memory, please consider planting a tree in his name by visiting the Sympathy Store, or visiting People of Idaho for more stories about remarkable individuals like Bob.
