Remembering Margaret Wilson (1931–2024)
Margaret Wilson passed away on July 9, 2024, in Eagle, Idaho, just days before her 93rd birthday. Born in Annapolis, Maryland, on July 16, 1931, she lit up every room with her laughter and formed lifelong friendships across the many places she called home.
Early Life and Naval Travels
Margaret met her future husband, Carl, in 1947 while he was a midshipman at the U.S. Naval Academy. They married at the Academy Chapel two days after his graduation in 1949. Together, they embarked on decades of station transfers—Pensacola, Norfolk, Boston, Long Beach, Guam—and cherished countless memories in each new locale.
Community Service and Historic Passions
After Carl’s retirement, Margaret served for 20 years at the National Register Historic Christ Church in Irvington, Virginia. She was a dedicated docent, historian, and Marketing Committee member, sharing her passion for preserving local heritage. Her love of flowers and garden design led her to the Kilmarnock Garden Club, where her creative spirit earned her numerous accolades.
Life in Eagle, Idaho
In 2009, Margaret and Carl moved to Eagle to be closer to family. Quickly immersing herself in local church activities and community events, she delighted in every opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren. Known for her warmth and wit, she was fond of saying to them, “I love you a bushel and a peck, and a hug around the neck!”
Family and Legacy
Preceded in death by her son Carl D. Wilson, Margaret is survived by her daughter, Dr. Carol A. Wilson of Cascade, Idaho, her brother Herbert Madison Wilson Jr. (Mary) of Annapolis, Maryland, five grandchildren—Chelsey, Lindsey, Colby, Angela, and Matthew— and fourteen great-grandchildren. They will miss her infectious laughter and the bright light she brought into every gathering.
A public viewing is scheduled for Tuesday, July 16, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Bowman Funeral Parlor , 10254 W. Carlton Bay Dr., Garden City, Idaho. Please leave condolences and memories at www.bowmanfuneral.com or call 208-853-3131.
A Word From a Friend
Recently, a note from a friend, James Warren in Idaho, reminded us how Margaret’s spirit continues to inspire those who knew her. May her knack for kindness and joy remain a guiding light in our communities.
